History

Myanmar Japan Thilawa Development Limited (MJTD) was established on January 10, 2014, as a joint venture between the governments of Myanmar and Japan, along with private sector partners. The project was initiated to develop Thilawa Special Economic Zone (SEZ), Myanmar’s first SEZ, with the goal of creating a world-class industrial hub that attracts foreign direct investment and boosts economic growth. The Phase 1 development of Thilawa SEZ was successfully completed in September 2015, covering 405 hectares. Due to its success and strong investor interest, Phase 2 was launched, expanding the SEZ further to accommodate more industries and businesses.

Development Achievements

Strategic Industrial Growth: The SEZ has attracted more than 100 international companies from various industries, including automotive, electronics, logistics, and consumer goods manufacturing.

Infrastructure Excellence:Developed with modern roads, reliable power supply, water facilities, and high-standard industrial zones, ensuring a business-friendly environment for investors.
Job Creation & Economic Impact: The project has contributed to the creation of thousands of jobs, supporting Myanmar’s workforce development and skill enhancement.

Sustainable Development: Emphasis on environmentally friendly industrial practices, including waste management, renewable energy integration, and efficient resource utilization.
