Myanmar Japan Thilawa Development (MJTD) organized a donation ceremony on May 23th, 2018, where stationery kits and school supplies were donated to more than 2,700 children from households located within and near the Thilawa Special Economic Zone (SEZ). The ceremony was held at the Moe Kyoe Swan Monastery near the economic zone as joint CSR activities of MJTD together with TSEZ’s investors/tenants that supports the neighboring community around Thilawa.

In attendance at the event were Thilawa SEZ Management Committee (TSMC) members, executive officers from MJTD and Myanmar Thilawa SEZ Holdings Public Limited, TSEZ’s investors, area school administrators and teachers as well as the students and their families.

U Aung Soe Thu (Chairman of MJTD) said “this annual tradition which started three years ago aims encourage and inspire the young students as they begin their new school term. MJTD and the tenants in Thilawa SEZ share the same vision that activities within the area must support and benefit local communities and children. The SEZ operator and developer in the past has launched several initiatives that focus mainly in education, community, health and capacity building. Last year, Thilawa SEZ spent around US$ 160,000 for CSR activities”
