More than 100 local engineers successfully complete the Thilawa Water and Environmental Engineering (Seminar) and Management Course

More than 100 engineers from four government authorities, two technical universities and 38 locators inside the Thilawa SEZ were recognized for their successful completion of the Thilawa Water and Environmental Engineering (Seminar) and Management Course, a programme jointly organized by Myanmar Japan Thilawa Development Ltd (MJTD), KUBOTA Corporation (KUBOTA) and the Thilawa SEZ Management Committee (TSMC) at a certificate awarding ceremony, held at MJTD’s office, Thilawa on 22 February, 2018.    

The certificates were awarded by the President and CEO of MJTD Mr. Tomoyasu Shimizu, with Mr. Hiroshi Omori (KUBOTA Corporation), Dr. Than Than Thwe from TSMC and U Thein Min from YCDC sharing their remarks at the event.

Through the programme encompassing six seminar sessions between May 2017 and February 2018, the engineers were provided specialized technical training on water supply systems and sewage treatment systems which are part of fundamental infrastructure facilitation, a field widely recognized as crucial to the social and economic development in Myanmar. The initiative to train core engineers to better ability to plan, manage and supervise construction work of these important systems and their appropriate operation and maintenance is expected to help improve their overall performance significantly.

To ensure the efficacy of the programme, MJTD invited qualified instructors and contributions of learning materials from top organizations including KUBOTA Environment Service Co. Ltd, the Yangon City Development Committee (YCDC), the Japan International Corporation Agency (JICA) Myanmar Office, MYANMAR KOEI INTERNATIONAL LTD, GOLDEN DOWA Ecosystem Myanmar CO., LTD, and ACECOOK MYANMAR CO., LTD etc. These organizations supported the course by exposing the participating engineers to various types of technologies behind water supply and waste treatment systems, shared their experiences from their various water and environment businesses.
