The Myanmar Government provides various utilities and infrastructure to the Thilawa SEZ with the strong support of a loan from the Japanese Government
Additional Water Supply
Additional water will be supplied to the SEZ from the Lagunbyin water treatment plant.
The government committed to expand the road leading to Thilawa SEZ. The 4-lane access road, is due to be expanded to 8.7km with a width of 3.5m each.
A new bridge over the Bago River, parallel with Thanlyin Bridge, will be built.
Port – new container terminal
The government will provides port facilities which consist of two berths with a quay wall length of 400 metres and a yard with a depth of ten metres. The port will be equipped with gantry cranes, reach stacker, trailer and terminal chassis to handle cargo from ships.
The government supplies electricity to the factories in the SEZ. Substantial efforts have been taken to ensure sufficient electricity and that the transmission system is capable of handling the load.
A 50MW gas power plant powered by two 25MW dual fuel gas turbines provides the bulk of electricity to the SEZ. A pipeline to supply gas directly to the power plant was completed in March 2016.
A 33kV distribution line with a maximum capacity of 20MW and connected to the national grid was completed in March 2015. An additional 230kV transmission line and substation will be targeted to complete in July 2017.
